It was a dream-come-true to get to work for Disney Head Office, and at their 100-year-anniversary made it an extra-special time..!

The building was very cool, with meeting rooms containing statues of Disney characters in them and themed floors e.g. ESPN having signed photos from sports stars, posters of Disney+ shows etc.

There was also a cinema which we did our on-boarding in and which aired movies/TV-shows (both new releases and replays) which you could opt-in to watch at no extra cost.

The team were such a hard-working bunch with high standards and a paid a great deal of attention to detail. I learnt heaps and really enjoyed the experience not only of living and working in London but also of getting to go to Disneyland (Paris) as a member of staff!

LIFE AT DISNEY

My role at Disney was Commercial Planning Supervisor where I got to error-check, expand on, and eventually rebuild in R, an excel-based model to forecast the number of subscribers to the Disney+ streaming service for each of the countries within Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

This entailed massive levels of complexity to make allowances for things like e.g. higher subscribers on public holidays, though accounting for the different public holidays in each country.

It was an extremely interesting project to be a part of, whilst not within an Actuarial department, it did require Actuarial-like ways of thinking in calculating how long a subscriber would be a subscriber for (i.e. their “probability of survival”).
